[CRC] Append to existing CRC Hash file |
|
Add option in the "Hash Setup" dialog: "Do not recalculate hash values that already exist".
If a CRC file already exists, and you add new files to the folder, then it would be much quicker and safer if you could simply add the CRCs for the new files to the existing CRC file, leaving ALL existing hash values unchanged.
Sure you can overwrite the existing CRC file and recalculate all the hash values again, but
a) This takes considerable longer, especially where large amounts of data are involved.
b) You loose all the old hash values, so unless you do a "Check" first, any damaged files will have a new "corrupted" hash values calculated, and the damaged files will go undetected, and what's worse, will falsely appear to be good in the future.

Better, add file metadata (size & mtime=date-modified) to the checksum-file. Only re-hash any files that appear to be updated. citizen (04.06.2010) |
