I would like to be able to check cd's at various fixed speeds like 1x 2x 4x 8x etc. This as an addition to the fullspeed read tests.

I see no need for this feature as there are several utilities which can "lock" the CD drive speed. Plextor drives come with a tool which does this and Nero Drive Speed (freeware) does the same thing (and is not limited to Plextor-brand drives). I find Nero Drive Speed very useful for reading "damaged" discs (see for details)
